Problem with my sun capsule

I seem to be having a problem with my 8 minute Cyclone. The plastic lamp holder where the lamp turns into is almost starting on fire. It does heat up enough that the plastic melts and leaves burn marks.(It has also melted a set of bi-pins on one of the lamps).

So far I've had it on both the top of the unit (where the starters are) and on the bottom but on different sides.

The voltage meter on the unit shows it's running at 232 volts.

This had happened twice within the past 3 months any ideas?

Re: Problem with my sun capsule

It happened twice in the same lamp position, or different positions have melted in the last three months? Lamp holder melt-downs are common on many stand-up units after X number of hours and is not usually and indication of trouble. However, if it's happening at the same position to new lamp holders with few hours, then there is something going on there.

Re: Problem with my sun capsule

It's in different positions and the unit has about 350 hours on it

Re: Problem with my sun capsule

Bought it brand new? It's possible that some of the lamp holders they installed may not have been up to top production standards from the mfr (you're always going to have a small percentage of units that are not quite up to snuff in mass-production). 350 hours seems a bit soon to me for these to be going out, but for what ever reason I guess it was just their "time to pass". If it is brand new, Sun Capsule should probably be sending you replacements under warranty I would think.

Re: Problem with my sun capsule

Yes they have, I was just wondering if this was normal or not. I asked the manufacturer and was told "this happens".

Re: Problem with my sun capsule

That's true. I don't believe there is anything mechanically wrong with unit - just a few bad parts - which again is common in mass production. So don't worry about it, just remember to turn off the power before you work on it.

Re: Problem with my sun capsule

Make sure you have good ventilation for all the panels and that the vent holes line up correctly. Is it in different positions on different walls, or on just one panel?

Re: Problem with my sun capsule

The wires may have not been pushed in all the way during manufacturing. Very easy to replace and suncapsule will most likely send them to you at no charge if the unit is less than a year old. Make sure when you replace them the wires are pushed into the lampholder and are secure. Also make sure you install the lamp correctly.
