Total Salon Buck Booster
Can someone please tell me what size buck booster I would need if I choose to boost my entire salon instead of individual beds. I have 400 amp 3 phase service and the following equipment:
1 5 ton split HVAC 1 3 ton split HVAC 2 Sportarredo Holiday - level 1 1 KBL 3500 - level 2 1 suncapsule cyclone 200W - level 2 1 Sportarredo Blue Moon - level 3 1 Matrix - high pressure I also have 4 remaining rooms in which I will likely add: 1 more level 1 1 more level 2 1 more level 3 standup 1 spray tan booth (or level 4) Thank you! |

Re: Total Salon Buck Booster
wow, this will take some time to figure out. You have 400 Amp 3 ph? 208 or 240? I'm not sure how many amps you are using now but the Cylcone and Matrix are using quite a bit. Would need to look everthing up to see what they draw and also you will need to know what beds you are going to add. Sounds as if you 400 amp service may not be enough if your going to add more beds or it will be close. Adding boosters, also creates more amp draw on the main.

Re: Total Salon Buck Booster
Use individual boosters for your beds. Especially if you mix brands. Some beds have different requirements and you can use the booster that is right for the job. Sometimes you can even install it right inside the bed, out of the way or behind the bed.
Having a huge transformer to build around will waste alot of space since code requires clearance around it. Get 208 WYE and boost it up with individual boosters as needed. 208 will give you more flexibility with your service. Get 800 amps. (600 min.)

Re: Total Salon Buck Booster
Yea ... electrician already squashed the "one" transformer idea. Have to do individual ones. 400 amp service is already in place and I'm only starting with the first six beds so upgrade to 600 or 800 can come later when I add beds. Service in place is 400A 3 phase 208 WYE. This location was set up well to get started. Thank you for your time.

Re: Total Salon Buck Booster
Remember when adding these boosters, it will draw a few more amps, depending on the KVA of the booster. Don't let your electrician burn you on the cost of the boosters, they are expensive as it is.... I've had the best luck with Square D and Donogan. Good Luck
