Re: Dermatologists fume at tanning industry claims
I am not sure why everyone is getting so angry. I feel the topic needs to be dealt with an open mind. I simply asked if anyone had any insight into the topic regarding UVB in new tanning beds. And based on the responses I guess not.
I find the information regarding Vitamin D to be far to incunclusive to be promoting as a positive or a negative. I try to encourage responsible tanning. In fact until the information is 100% conclusive, I find it not be a good idea to mislead my clients. For every postive fact or argument I get a negative. There is far to much Gray area in this subject to be preaching benefits. |

Re: Dermatologists fume at tanning industry claims
I have more then 3 binders full of articles plus about 200 links online. I don't mean to offend you but you really do need help with your research. Your time might be better spent getting a degree in dermatology. Yes UVB is decreased in HP units. Is it decreased enough to stop the production of pre-vitamin D3 process??? NO. I highly recommend you purchase a Vitamin D meter from Solar Meter and get serious if you want to get in to conversations about tanning and vitamin D here. Also look up Don Smith he's by far the BEST on the stats etc. If you are serious about wanting to understand this read every single one of his posts and never miss one. If you need help he's always been great about helping us understand the complicated terms he uses. :)

Re: Dermatologists fume at tanning industry claims
If you are not sure why everyone "seems" so angry to you then why did you start your post stating that you "know" it's a "touchy" subject?

...for the record I am far from angry and willing to help you find research by unbiased scientific university studies. they are the ones i trust first. :)

Re: Dermatologists fume at tanning industry claims
UUMMM thank you for proving my point! lol
you just said that tanning units filter out the UVB (less than 1%). So if they filter out the UVB which produces the Vitamin D, then how do the new units emit Vitamin D? yes they provide for a better tan, but what is the health benefit, if UVB is removed? |

all he meant was don't trust your sources of information until you check who's behind them financially :)

Quote:
just because it's 1% doesn't mean it doesn't start the vitamin D process. our matrix is 1.92 % UVB and produces over 40,000 units of pre vitamin d3 in one session.

Re: Dermatologists fume at tanning industry claims
Aceboogie, you could learn so much from Shantilly with you both being from Canada. Shantilly takes great pride in the research and advertising she and her husband do for their customers. You're in a place where you can tell your clients they can get Vitamin D from your beds and you don't want to do this?

Re: Dermatologists fume at tanning industry claims
by the way "Shantilly" you just proved my point. Try not to copy and paste things off a website.
you just said that new units filter out the UVB. wasnt that the point I was trying to make. There you go everyone, a quote directly from the manufacturer. Eileen I would like to talk to you more. You do seem to be the only one that has any real insight into the subject. |
