Electrical installation costs!!!

Looking for advice...

I'm opening a tanning salon in Calgary in a brand new building. I get possesion of the building March 1st which is basically 4 walls and a cement floor, everything else is up to me. The landlord provided me with 208/240 volt 3 phase 4 wire electrical service with the panel installed. Tricky part is the electrician's . 2 of them, have given me what I find to be a huge huge crazy quote to wire the power... $50,000 - $60,000 JUST FOR ELECTRICAL... I mean, can tanning beds honestly require that much special electrical equipment?????? I realize Calgary is a very booming economy and everything is through the roof but honestly, this seems completely insane to me. Anyone have any experience with this??

thanks.

Re: Electrical installation costs!!!

to be honest I will have to talk to my contractor and distributor to find that out but 1000 amps for 7 and a maximum of 9 beds in the future seems extremely high.. I would assume 400 or 600 amp would be sufficient.... and WOW if that's the cost maybe I won't be opening after all...

Re: Electrical installation costs!!!

It MIGHT benefit you to find a place that has the electricity already. AC is a HUGE INVESTMENT also.

Re: Electrical installation costs!!!

The problem is my lease and everything is already done... In my lease I negotiated 8 tons of AC. the thing I'm not understanding is if I was putting in electrical for a normal business ie. store etc.. it would be around the $10,000 mark.. so why just becuase I'm putting in 7 tanning beds does it increase by $50,000??????? it seems insane and like something just isn't right...

Re: Electrical installation costs!!!

Do you just have to wire the salon or is the electric already there? If the panel is already hot it should not cost more than 10K to hook up the beds and other items. Even 10K is a very high number in my area.

I would agree....if the power is already hooked up to the building and you just need to wire the salon for the beds and such, $50K is a crazy high amount I would think.

Re: Electrical installation costs!!!

The lanlord has provided a 400 amp, 240/208 volt, 3 phase, 4 wire service and has provided an emptry 42 circuit panel board. I was in the building yesterday and there was an electrical panel already installed.... so from what I gather they only have to run electrical from the panel to the lights, beds, plugs etc...

Is there anyone in the area who might suggest an electrical company who's not going to charge 60,000 dollars?????

thanks for everyone's help

Re: Electrical installation costs!!!

Go to a local electrical supply business and see if they can recommend anyone. If they won't recommend someone due to alienating any of their other customers they may have a bulletin board or place for electricians to put business cards.

So you have the PANEL but still need the electric company to actually SUPPLY the panel. As of right now, what is the actual electric you have available?

If it's 400amp 3ph then I'd say stick with that cause that's a good amount
