The shelf life of a lotion...

Is there any particular period of time to keep a lotion on the shelf? I recently grabbed one off our shelf to check it out & it was complete liquid! How long is the average shelf-life of a lotion? Anyone know?

That lotion would have to be on the shelf for a really long time to liquify. You may want to ask: How old was the bottle when you received it? Could a client have switched his or her old, left-in-the-car-in-extreme-heat bottle for the one on your shelf?
