Smile Finally...

Researchers are finally looking at whether or not vitamin D supplements have the same biological efficacy as does UVR induced vitamin D.

"The study will observe whether taking a vitamin D tablet changes the risk of a person being diagnosed with health conditions such as cancer, heart disease or infections."

"Professor Neale said there is still insufficient evidence to suggest it is possible to achieve the full cancer-fighting advantage with Vitamin D pill supplements, or whether the apparent health benefits relied on the sun."

Re: Finally...

I have been saying for a long time that the bioavailability of man made vit d pales in comparison with the analog vit d made by your body for your body.It is just so stupid to do studies on something so important while using man made supplements and ridiculously low levels and expect a realistic result.

The levels of vit d should always be compared to indigenous populations of humans in sunny areas. That should be the default # .That is nature at work.

Instead these idiots take synthetic vit d and use govt supplied dosage recommendations and then spread their results as if it is gospel truth.

And they wonder why there is so much disease out there.A@#holes!

Re: Finally...

It would be considered an "inhumane" study if they did not wear sunscreen.

Re: Finally...

Consider the "evidence" supporting the notion that UVR-induced vitamin D (i.e., "natural") is more active biologically than supplemental vitamin D (i.e., artificial).

1. The "natural" form (UVR-induced) has never been shown to result in toxicity. The "feedback mechanism" involved with the "natural" production "converts" excess vitamin D into other forms when "enough" has been produced. There is a "toxic" level with "artificial" vitamin D supplements.

2. There is a difference in the way "natural" (UVR-induced) vitamin D is "transported" throughout the body vs the way supplemental ("artificial) vitamin D is transported and utilized.

When we know more about the fast growing field of "epigenetics" I believe we will find that "natural" (UVR-induced) vitamin D "acts differently" on the 2,000+ genes than does the "artificial" (supplemental) form of vitamin D.

Mother Nature knows best!

Exciting. Unfortunately, the results won't be available for 5 years.
