Rep Power: 26 | Vitamin D & Dementia Does Vitamin D Deficiency Increase Dementia Risk? “Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to a number of neurologic conditions, including vascular dysfunction, ischemic stroke, and brain atrophy, and has also been presumed to increase the risk of cognitive decline. A new study has confirmed that hypothesis, demonstrating a link between vitamin D deficiency and increased risk of dementia in older adults.” “The authors found that participants who had low levels of vitamin D at baseline – defined as 25 to 50 nanomoles per liter (nmol/L) – had an increased risk of dementia of about 51 percent, when compared with participants who had sufficient (more than 50 nmol/L) levels of vitamin D at baseline. Those who were severely vitamin D deficient (less than 25 nmol/L) had an increased dementia risk of about 122 percent. The numbers were comparable for risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.” http://journals.lww.com/neurotodayon...spx?PostID=344 Click on the link below to access a free copy of the full article. http://www.neurology.org/content/ear....full.pdf+html |

Rep Power: 26 | Re: Vitamin D & Dementia If you look at the "double" graph at the bottom of page 5 you will note that the protective role of vitamin D for Alzheimers disease is "dose dependent" with the best result at a blood level of 150 nmol/L (i.e., the level that I have been recommending for over 10 years). Regarding your statement that - "You would think that with all our modern "knowledge" cancer rates would be dropping, not rising." - your question "touches" on the new (and exploding!) field of epigenetics. In summary, what we may be seeing is that the "cumulative effect" of several generations of vitamin D insufficient/deficient parents resulting in offspring that are "more susceptible" to cancer (and, as the article shows, dementia). |

Rep Power: 26 | Re: Vitamin D & Dementia He has a new form called "dermatologist dementia" whereby all of the evidence in favor of controlled ultraviolet radiation exposure is ignored and the negative BS is accepted. But then, what do you expect - he IS a dermatologist. |
