Lightbulb Think about this

Think about this: If a sufficienty vitamin D blood level can "delay" precocious puberty (young girls with low vitamin D levels have over twice the incidence of precocious puberty), it provides additional "proof" that Mother Nature intended for women to maintain a sufficient level during their lives, especially during childhood, pre-puberty and puberty.

And what is the "normal and natural" way to maintain a sufficient blood level of vitamin D? Controlled ultraviolet radiation exposure!

One more thing. The jury is still out (because no studies have been conducted) regarding whether or not supplemental vitamin D has the same biological action as does UVR-induced vitamin D.

More Vitamin D intake may delay precocious puberty

Malathy Iyer, TNN Jun 18, 2013, 03.51PM IST

MUMBAI: Mothers may no longer have to worry about their young girls reaching early puberty. New research from South Korea suggests that vitamin D tablets or injections could help delay this early onset.
At the ongoing Endocrine Society's 95th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, the researchers said that low levels of vitamin D were found in girls who had attained precocious puberty.

While girls attain puberty between 10 and 14 years of ages, precocious puberty is diagnosed in some girls who attain puberty before they turn eight.

The researchers found that 44% of the girls who were suffering from precocious puberty had a severe deficiency in vitamin D. In comparison, only to 21 % of the girls who had age-appropriate physical development suffered from vitamin D deficiency. The researchers also found that vitamin D deficiency affected the hormonal cycle in such a way that it triggered the ovulation process.

The researchers had studied 110 girls; of this, 35 had attained precocious puberty. While the researchers said that more studies are necessary to establish the exact vitamin D mechanism, the general belief is that taking the vitamin will help normalise the hormonal cycle among young girls.

Re: Think about this

Here is the question that must be answered. Does supplemental vitamin D have the same "biological potency" as does UVR-stimulated vitamin D?

Let's take three children.

- One girls mother was vitamin D insufficient during pregnancy, didn't use supplements and slathered on sunscreen every time she was in the sun from birth to age 18.

- One girls mother took vitamin D supplements during pregnancy and gave her vitamin D supplements from birth to age 18.

- One girls mother utilized controlled ultraviolet radiation exposure and took supplements during pregnancy and exposed her daughter to controlled doses of UVR and gave her vitamin D supplements from birth to age 18.

Which one do you predict (a) would be the healthiest, and (b) would be most likely to have a healthy child herself?

It's just common (alas, not so common) sense, folks.
