I read that we need Vit D sulphate from UV. D3 supplementss are not as good.

I read that vitamin D3 supplements are made from irradiated sheep skin oil, so I don't know why the outcome would be different from our own skin. However, I read from many seemly reputable sources that the vitamin D made in our skin is Vitamin D sulphate, a water soluble form of the vitamin responsible for fixing our immune system and mental health. I read that only after these functions are taken care of is it converted to its fat soluble form, Vitamin D3, which is responsible for absorbing calcium and is tested for in the blood.

I read that sunlight treats many conditions, but that vitamin D pills have never been shown to improve immunity or mental health like UV rays do.

Does anyone else have more insight into this? Why can't we supplement with vitamin D sulfate? Some experts argue with its existence.

Since vitamin D is made from cholesterol, and maybe sulfur is involved, I like to eat eggs. I also read that you need oil in your oil glands to make vitamin D, so maybe having a deep soapy clean before or after sun bathing is a bad idea. Some enthusiasts say that you should only soap where the sun does not shine: toes, arm pits, etc, and just rinse every other area. The more oil you have beneath your skin's surface, the more vitamin D you will likely make while in the sun. I even read a blog by a woman who got her vitamin D levels tested and found they did not go up until she stopped soaping. Even I've stopped soaping unnecessary areas, and I don't smell bad at all.

The beauty of sun tanning is the heat and IR will cause the skin to produce sweat that contains oil.

Amazing how things just work together.
