Re: SPF...does it work? An experiment

The Magic has somewhere near 99% UVA and I am here to tell you that I had a tan derived from 1-2X per week in Magic only (New bed trying it out and the whole 28 day exfolitaion thing), and I burned to the point if half my face peeled Southern exposure while watching a peewee footbal game.

If I tan in my other beds levels 3 or 4, I have no problem, I may turn a little red, but it is usally gone the next day.

It's because the % is only relevent if the total output is the same. The Magic is probably 2-4X the total UV output of the other beds, therefore having more overall UVB along with a redonkulous amount of UVA.

Re: SPF...does it work? An experiment

your skin flaked off because it wasn't moisturized. Your tanning accelerator kept your skin more moist than Caltan Heliotherapy 15. We all know that tanning dries your skin up with the UVB exposure...especially for so many hours on end.....when you go in a VHR bed for full time, that won't compare to a full day in the sun....and then 7 days back to back....it's like tanning in your VHR bed full time twice a day for 7days straight...

Using a good lotion will not only build you stronger color, but keep your skin moist during your exposure to keep your tan lasting longer.

Had you used something like Hemp moisturizer that is nice and thick and moisturizing after your sun exposure with the SPF, you would have the same effect. No burn, Dark Tan and moist skin. No flaking of the skin.

Re: SPF...does it work? An experiment

From my experience this spring:

Had a very strong tanning bed base tan and went to the beach using intending to use no SPF. First day burned to a crisp. The serious burn where I had blisters. Ooops. The 2nd-4th days I used an OTC SPF 4 on my face and 8 elsewhere. And most importantly used some strong stuff (again, OTC - didn't own the salon yet ;) ) on my lips.

One of the girls I was with used a high SPF the first day and burned and we found it it was 5 or so years old so apparently there's a shelf life too.

My best friend just got back from a week at the beach and she used OTC SPF 15 the whole time and had a nice "glow" to her - no skin flaking or anything.

I'd surmise that it depends on the person.

When I use SPF, I use AG 8 & 15. If it's going to be an all-dayer w/ alchohol, I'm wearing it! My skin is never flaking off.

Not sure if Din-Canada is talking about Hempz or Moisturizer w/ Hemp. I can't stand Hempz products. I love SB Moisturizers though.

I've tried as well as sold just about every moisturizer from crappy ones to the best of the best that the indoor tanning lotion manuf. have made. The only one that works the best, regardless of how much you hate supre, is this!!! Bottom line.
