Re: Free Vitamin D Calculator Online

That "calculator" is cool, but it doesn't really add anything. It has a couple shortcomings.
1) People don't generally know the actual UV index at a given time of day from a UVI
forcast
2) The time of year makes a difference on how effective a given UVI is for vitamin D eff.
3) The frequency of exposure isn't addressed.
4) The amount of desired vitamin D conversion isn't given.
5) The amount of body area exposed isn't addressed.
6) The effect of body geometry on the actual dose received isn't addressed.

But it is a good illustrative example of how dose duration varies.

After the June ASP meeting I might make my calculator available online that takes all of the above into account.

Re: Free Vitamin D Calculator Online

And the "baseline level" of vitamin D (25-OH-D) at the start of beginning UVR/supplement therapy must be taken into consideration.

Finally, multiply the results (calculated by the calculator) by two (to compensate for the fact that sunlight can only strike one side of the body at a time) and you will be "much closer" to the truth.
