I agree, appointments sell you short they are a win for the customer, but not for the salon. If their bed is busy they can either a. wait or b. downgrade for free. or c. pay to upgrade you will be amazed at how many people upgrade they are after all getting to lay in better equipment. The longer you keep taking appts they harder it will be. Yes at first you will hear whining from some, but you might also be suprised at how relieved it makes customers not feeling obligated to make an appointment. Some of my best customers come in on a whim and buy lotion do cocktail tanning just because they no we don't take any appointments on anything it is all walk-ins... Give a couple week notice in the rooms with signage and when some gripe just have your staff prepared to handle the complaints... example its not efficient for the salon, too many people are late, too many cancellations, no shows etc...
