| ITA Update
Over the years the ITA has established and cultivated relationships with dozens of key policymakers. We have built a small but very effective political action committee (PAC) to support this effort and as a result made our industry a respected adversary to those groups who would try to put you out of business. At the December meeting, the board reaffirmed that Federal legislative and regulatory issues will be our primary and critical focus this year and pledged to raise the resources to accomplish that goal.
It is clear that our opponents are becoming more savvy in their quest to minimize our growth as an industry. They have launched a much more aggressive multipronged attack on our industry at the Federal legislative level including the FTC, FDA and with the congressional committees in an attempt to legislate us out of business.
The ITA is continuing to evolve in a way that best suits the needs of the entire industry. We are having to spend more time, money and effort on these Federal industry relations. With the relationships we have developed, and in concert with the powerful lobbying group we have worked with for over a dozen years, our Washington office is best suited to address these challenges.
