solution are you using? I have never had this as an issue and I use Norvell. I have tried South Seas and it does have a slightly stronger odor. I have never smelled a thing with either of them after the first shower. Before the first shower there is a slight odor of DHA with Norvell but very slight. After using the South Seas my friend said she smelled like bong water (lol) before the first shower. With Norvell, I have never had anyone complain of the odor, I have heard many times that people are surprised at how there is not a lingering smell.
