Re: Vitamin D may lessen the pain for those on Arimidex/Breast Cancer
Hi-I just became familiar with this issue myself, so I'm glad to see others raising awareness. I was dx'ed last August, took Arimidex for 6 months without a twinge of pain. Then all **** broke loose with crushing, throbbing, body-wide pain. I was switched to several other AIs, then back to Armidex, on and off it 3 times since April. Turns out my vitamin D level (I have an excellent integrative onc.) had plummeted from mid 50's to 32 while taking 5000 IU vitamin D daily(not a misprint!). Is this responsible for the unbearable pain? I don't know. In the last 4 weeks I have been getting 30 minutes mid day sun, taking 2 TBS cod liver oil, and taking 50,000 IU capsules once a week. Don't know if my D level has gone back up yet, (doc just drew blood to test last week) but the pain was so severe I had to stop the Arimidex last week yet again.
Anyway, I was aware (and my onc agrees) that blood levels should be between 60 and 80, so I'm wondering where you got the number >120 from? Seems to me a level THAT high would be a toxic overdose, which is also dangerous and very difficult to correct. Could you provide references for attaining such a high level?
Thanks!
Maddy
*So attaining/maintaining an optimal level (>120 nmol/L) of vitamin D helps to prevent breast cancer; increases survival time for those who have breast cancer; and reduces bone pain for those being treated (as shown above) for breast cancer with Arimidex.*
