A decent receipt printer can not be had cheap, unless you think $300 is cheap. You may be able to get one for as low as $200 used.

My preference has always been the Star thermal printers. I think the 620 is what we use. Built like a brick and REALLY easy to load paper in. Being thermal, they are fast and quiet.
