I always tell people that ask, "wear whatever you're comfortable with". Most will come in to see me wearing a swimsuit and then change their mind and go topless after they've talked to me for a few minutes. I guess it takes them that long to figure out I'm not some horrible, scary person who actually gives a crap what they look like naked. =)
I do think the more information you give them, the better. I remember being nervous the first time I went to get a spray tan, because I didn't know what to expect. The chick didn't do a good job of explaining anything to me, so I decided I would do things differently.
