I let them tan in any level, whenever. I agree with scub... they're your best advertisment. If you don't let them use the upgrade beds, why would they tell your clients to use them? My clients ask, "Which bed do you use?" all the time. Do you want your employees to say, "Levels 1 and 2"?
They also get lotion at salon cost. That way they don't hesitate to use top of the line lotions. If they use them, they'll sell them. I also give them free samples when I bring in new product. I want them to know every lotion we stock, so I make sure they've tried it at least once.
I do have individual shelves for each of them to keep their lotion at the salon in the office, that way, I see that if they purchased a bottle at cost, it's not being given to their friends to use. I've made it clear that if they ever use their employee discount to purchase lotions for anyone else, they won't be an employee at my salon anymore. ;)
