No one has suggested talking with her doctor. Why not run both tanning options by her doctor and see if that can't quiet her husband. He can't think he knows more than her doctor...Check with your attorney or state employment office to see if you do have grounds to fire. I do agree she needs to be tan to be behind the counter...self tanning lotions, something.
