I had a similar issue like this. The fans only seemed to come on when the canopy was up.

Turns out the fans had their own power cord that was loose and break connection when you closed the canopy.

Watch out. You will lose MANY USEFUL HOURS on those lamps with the fans off. HUNDREDS if they get hot enough.
