Re: The Elephant in the Living Room?

The incontrovertible benefits of UVR-induced vitamin D are (without question) important but they are (IMHO) secondary to the primary benefit of sensible, moderate and responsible exposure to UVR, ideally in the controlled and consistent environment found in an indoor tannng salon.

These "primary" benefits, i.e., the increase in TUVR (tolerance to UVR) and concurrent decrease in SUVR (sensitivity to UVR) will be covered in the October issue of Looking Fit magazine. This article - for the first time - will show how (a) different skin types/subtypes and (b) different tan levels affect the TUVR/SUVR relationship. This article will provide you with "numbers" showing how TUVR/SUVR changes as the tan gets darker for each skin type/subtype. [Note: It helps (me at least) to consider TUVR and SUVR as two sides of the same coin. As the TUVR increases (as the tan develops), the SUVR decreases and (conversely) as the TUVR decreases (and the tan fades) the SUVR increases. Thus, the "ideal" way to protect your skin is to maintain a tan year-round.]
