Vital findings on vital amines

The findings of a research study by a group of UAE University scientists on the content of vegetable oils and milk products is alarming to say the least.
The study concluded that some products available in the market are not properly fortified, as they are supposed to be, with vitamins A and D. "The milk samples fortified with vitamin D are either under-fortified or over-fortified and 40 per cent of the analysed samples have no vitamin D," stated one of the researchers.
The findings raise many issues, most important of which is the right of consumers to know of the content of products that may have an effect on their health. It also highlights the need for a standard measurement of all food products available in the market, which should be on par with international standards.
This would require a joint effort by the authorities concerned to inform and protect consumer rights.
