Re: My first firing

I just fired a 16 year old about two months ago. Gave her several chances to straighten up but always back to the same crap. I would come in to a mess the morning after she worked, floors not vacuumed, wastebaskets full, displays a mess. The final straw was when I came in and there were bread sticks ground into the floor, about an 8 inch pop spill on the carpet, paraffin wax peeled off their hands and thrown on the floor, gouge in the wall from chair, and the biggie - customer told me two of her friends were sitting at my nail table doing each others nails.

After I fired her I had so many people tell me they were glad I did. Even her friends said that when she worked this was the hangout for all her friends. When customers came in they were greeted with a very unenthusiastic Hi, like they were disturbing her. Found out she let friends tan free, which I suspected from the start. Later I started noticing things missing, two $24.00 nail brushes, about 10 nail polishes, stuff like that.

So glad I let her go. It was stressing me out so bad. I was trying to work with her because she was young and this was her first job. No more Mr. Nice Guy and no more employees under 18. Works for me. Now all the girls at the high school are mad at her, because of her I no longer hire under 18.
