Nice resource and interesting commentary. I am curious to hear what all of you think about the current state of the industry. All other things being equal, do you think that your business has or will be affected by current tanning trends?

I live in southern CA and I am toying with the idea of opening a salon, however, my area is fairly well saturated with upscale spa type salons that cater to the pasty pale highrise businessperson segment here in Orange County! I don't have the means to compete with that, however, I would relocate if I could find a decent market and have a reasonable level of assurance that the overall trend in the industry for the next 10 years leans toward stability.

From what I have read, it really isn't all that stable, but again, I would love to hear from current salon owners/operators on their business and the business of surrounding salons.

Incidentally, I have just been reading for 24 hours or so and have learned a lot. I think I wouldn't make a decision for at least another year. If I still am in love with the idea at that point, I will consider venturing in.
