Actually, they are a national candy company with their headquarters here. They have retail stores throughout the metro, and provide fresh chocolates to most grocery stores in town for "special occasions" like Valentines Day. The entire metro was in a major snow storm yesterday, turned ice, now turned cold and blowing winds. By last night, many counties had Level 2 snow emergencies and a half dozen were at Level 3 (where they can arrest you if they find you out driving). Today the same thing - they've even closed down the major universities and some local government offices.
Can you imagine what a hit the jewelry companies are taking?? I'm guessing that for MOST guys - if they hadn't shopped in advance (and face it - how many of them do?) - they have the PERFECT excuse not to give a gift this year! Valentine's Day is a pretty "Hallmark" kind of holiday. Can't see making a big to-do out of it 2 days after the fact. They just got off the hook this year!
Meanwhile - all the restaurants booked up with reservations tonight will probably ALSO go unused.
It'll be interesting to see how they calculate the total loss. It'll be in the millions for sure!
