parrot head, If the bed is 160W+ I would definitely use the Electronic Starters. They work great & get less end blackening plus they last a very long time.

For 100W beds you could use the Electronic starters or just stick to the S12. The S12's are good for 6000 starts or about every other lamp change on a 100W unit.

The S12 is only rated for up to 140W, so if you use them in a 160W unit, which most units come this way, they will need to be changed more frequently.

One problem with electronic starters is that they sometimes don't work well with Philips, Voltarc & some Heraeus lamps. No problems with LSI, Cosmedico or Wolff at all.
If you don't want to pony up the extra $1 for an electronic starter the Philips Cleo Power is also a great replacement for higher wattage lamps 160W+.
