Operator And Employee Training

Currently, Ohio rules define a qualified operator as anyone at least 18 years old designated by the permit holder for the facility to assist and instruct the public in the correct operation of the tanning facility. Some areas of responsibility for the operator are sanitation, determining a tanning schedule, safety instructions and eyewear use.
Proposed rules for a qualified operator will be defined as someone who possesses a valid and current certificate of formal training. Committee members are favoring a requirement that at least one or two people have formal training and they would in turn be responsible for training the remaining staff.
Committee members realize that course availability, minimum wage staff, employee turnover and rural business locations will create challenges in complying with this proposed rule. Because of this, committee members are considering allowing correspondence courses in addition to formal classroom training. Each training option will be required to gain state approval prior to offering certification within Ohio.
