how many hours on them? Well, nevermind that. There is NO WAY to get rid of black ends.

It's cause by a couple of things.

1) Cathode "spatter" which LSI and VOLTARC claim they fixed by surrounding the cathode. These will look like little specs (char) and slowly start to pile up at the end of the lamp.
2) Heat. The ends of the lamps are the hottest and can "scar" the lamp with a black "swipe" looking mark. Not spatter looking but if you held a match to it and it got hot to the point of blackening.
3) junk lamp.

Also, "aggressive" lamps will always get black ends. Kinda like a GREAT WARRIOR will still have scars after the battle.

Seeing this was the busy season I would ASSume that it's from running that bed non stop for hours at a time.

Ever see a VHRTT at 1000hrs? Not pretty but they still kick a llamas *** at close range!
