It isn't as loud as a tanning bed running. It is loud enough that I have it behind a shelf in the room. That helps muffle the sound. You can talk normally with the customer. The turbine unit could actually be mounted outside the room because the hose is very long. I have a surge protector strip in the room it is plugged in to that I use to turn it on and off.
i also built my spray room. Used white fiberglass panels to line the walls, built a paltform with a drain in it for the customer to stand on (I'm 6'3" so I like having them stand on a 6" platform so I don't have to stoop over). The drain has a catch basin and a sump pump. Drain line runs up from the platform into the drop ceiling and back to the washing machine drain. After cleaning the spray gun, fill with water and cleaner to spray the walls down and wash overspray down the drain.
I also have a large bathroom exhaust fan and a filter mounted over the spray area to catch most of the overspray.
