Too high DHA% on light skin will do just as you've said. Over application of products will do this also. It is possible part of it is the quality of the solution, some are better than others, but most likely it is a combination of this and going too dark for this particular client.

Basically what happens is, as the client's skin (tan) is being sloughed off, the "new" skin underneath is being exposed and has much more contrast than that of a lighter solution. Hence, it's much more noticeable. There's really something to that saying of, "too much of a good thing"...Yadda yadda.

It isn't easy to convince any client that what is dark for them is the best way to go. They aren't ever going to be the darkest in the room, and that's okay. The best sunless tan is the one that looks realistic, not the darkest, necessarily.
