Not exactly true...the mineral oil found in lotions and cosmetics is highly refined (not the crude forms from petroleum that can be damaging to skin). While part of it does sit on the surface of the skin, it does not block UV. Actually, it amplfies UV much in the same way that water does. However, since mineral oil can damage acrylic, it is never approved for indoor tanning.

As far as moisturizers go, Mineral Oil acts to seal moisture into the skin and is widely known as the number one substance for helping skin keep it's moisture. Please research the benefits of mineral oil before making a snap judgement. It works miracles for some people...depending on your skin type.

As far as tanning goes, after-tan lotions with mineral oil do not pose a threat to acrylics unless used directly before a tanning session. Using a moisturizer with mineral oil on days that you don't tan (you shouldn't tan every day anyway) will not have detremental effects on tanning, or the tanning equipment.
