| could be tinea versicolour (sun spots) - Tinea is a fungus that doesn't allow the rays to penetrate into your skin - which is why you are not tanning in that area - you can treat it with carbolic soap (medicated soap), or good dandruff shampoo OR tanning salons sometimes sell products specific for the treatment of sunspots (such as Wipe Out by Body Drench) but they cost too much. If that isn't it, then check with your doctor.
