From my understanding why tryozine is not in some products is becuase of govermental regualtion not if the ingredient is effective in helping the tanning process.
What happened is that the FDA/FTC decided to investigate "tanning accelerators" and their claims that Tyrozine was "accelerating" the tanning process.
So if you used the term "accelerator" for your product name then the FDA/FTC was going after you for making "medical" claims about your products.
Companies faced choices about keeping long established product names or droping an ingreident. They chose to drop the ingredient. Other companies like mine kept the ingredient and changed the product name. We went from "Accelerator" to Base Builder (TM) or Tan Builder.
The herbal/ vitamin companies have won a number of "claim statement" lawsuits with FTC/FDA so the rules have changes in the past 2-3 years on this issue.
