It’s okay not to like AG products. I myself don’t like “Wild” because it stinks. On the other hand I do like “Thrust”. I don’t really care if it contains “dog poop extract” so long as the customer likes it. It either works or it doesn’t? What works for one person may not do as well for another. AG has it’s place in our tanning world. From $14.50 to around $55.00 in price. AG has something for everyone when it comes to price range. As we all know, some clients will buy based on price alone. Why? Because they are students with part-time jobs and have no money for a $35-$50 lotion. That’s the bottom line. As professionals, we all want our customers to get the best darn tan possible in our salons. But we all know that you can’t sell the best lotions to everyone. They just can’t afford it. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just a fact of life. I guess you could recommend a “Attitude” product as a cheap alternative, but what have you done then. AG isn’t the bottom of the barrel in the lotion world. If your customers want it, sell it to them. Your only recourse should be to try to educate them on lotion price vs. quality. Give them examples of what a higher priced lotion would do for them. I’m not sure you want to bash any lotion line outright. If you bash it to someone who loves the line, you may pee them off because they take it very personal. Just a thought. I never get into lotion bashing with a customer. Second, I would never admit selling a product I thought was “Crap”. As soon as you do, the customer will hear you say that you are selling “Crap Lotion”. Is that the message we want to send? I think not. Sell what ever works for you and your customers. Educate them as best you can and move on to the next one. That’s what we should be doing to every one who walks in our door.
