This is what one Cleveland-area salon does: They buy close-out lotions for $3-$4 a bottle that normally retail for $50-$60. They then sell the lotion at full retail, and the promotion is that the customer gets a month of unlimited tanning for free. The sale is basically a wash, but the motivation for the salon is that they put premium-style lotions in the hands of customers who normally wouldn't spend $50-$60 on a bottle of lotion. The result for the salon are some increased lotion sales down the road.
