DNA is the stuff INSIDE the cell membranes and INSIDE the nuclear membranes. It is the key to life. Your DNA tells every single cell in your body what to do, when to divide, when to repair itself, when to die, etc....

Ok, technically speaking actually DNA only provides the “Blue Print” for each of these processes; it is the translation of the mRNA that actually controls the processes of cellular repair, amino acid production and most major cellular functions.

But, that is beside the point. Eliminate the sidetracking and this was the start of a great topic. Free radical oxidation is considered to be one of the most influential processes behind the aging process. I would estimate that nearly 80% of the research currently be conducted on anti-aging products is done using some variation of free radical scavengers or anti-oxidants.

Chris, good topic, and great information… this is the information and types of educational topics that will provide everyone in our industry the tools to fight some of the negative stigmas associated with tanning. Just think about the next time one of your tanners reads the FDA required warning on an tanning lotion, that includes the statement “ Repeated exposure of unprotected skin while tanning may increase the risk of SKIN AGING…..” but now you are more confidently able to explain the process of free radical oxidation, and the use of anti-oxidants. Even if your understanding is limited to just the high level overview, at least you have some information to pass along to your employees. You cannot ignore the issue, and it certainly is even worse to try to make something up.

Good topic, and Chris is be commended on even having the desire to share the information, it takes time to write posts, and these are topics that she is already very familiar, so the only benefit is the sharing of the information with others. So unless there is a tip jar somewhere, thanks is about all you can give. Regarding the grammar, it is a good thing you married an English Professor. I can only image there is a lot of pressure in dotting the “t’s” and crossing the “I’s”, Jim makes me nervous when I type, that guy is a lingual wizard.
