Don, as with the human eye, the TanTone unit will be affected by the red of blood flow so the readings should be done PRIOR to the heat of a tan.
Don, If I'm correct on this one, the unit's readings will replace the present system of skin typing. If I'm correct, the tanning ability (the ability of a tanner to advance to either more time on the same bed or the same time on a stronger (UVB influenced) bed of a tanner increases as his protective melanin layer increases and/or darkens. This being the case, why should a skin type 2B be relegated to a certain bed when in fact the skin type 2B with a tan is as protected as a skin type 3B without a tan. This unit will indicate the level of darkness (protection except where the colour is from make-up... bronzers) and show a tanner where they are at any moment instead of relying on the basis of their untanned (unprotected) skin.
As well, by keeping a record of the bed and exposure time used when the tanner was at a certain TanTone number, the tanner returning after an absence of months, not accepting a lower than last time bed, can be shown without a fight that his colour has actually faded and that a proposal that they tan in the bed and exposure time when he was last at his current TanTone number will prevent not only an argument.. but the burn that usually results when the salon owner loses the argument.
Don, give me your address and I'll send you my loaner unit to test.
