FYI To Ask Don's Army:
Here are a few of the things that caught my eye in Nashville.
1. The new ECS system that promises to double your sunlamp life. The guys behind this new and inovative system "claim" that they can double the life of the sunlamps by virtue of keeping the lamps "on" continiously. They believe (and they are correct) that the "start up" is what causes sunlamps to fail.
Will this concept catch on? First of all, they will have to prove to FDA that there is no "risk" to the employees cleaning the sunbed and/or to client when he/she comes into the room and then they will have to face the issue of whether the sunlamp companies will stand still for what is, in essence, a "recertification" of their products.
2. The shoulder tanning lamps in the ETS Escape 755. These 30w sunlamps are only about 6 inches high and appear to put out a lot of irradiance. If they do the job, it will be a real "coup" for Wolff System Technology and ETS.
3. Mori's "PocketSpec" device to measure the development of your client's tan. The marketers of this cute little device "claim" that it makes it possible to "quantitate" the development of Photo-Induced Protective Pigmentation (PIPP), which is better known as a tan, and if it works, it should be a winner.
Some concerns I have is whether or not it will work for all skin types and whether or not it is "corrected" for the hemoglobin in blood. Mori said he will send me one to evaluate so I will let you know what I find out.
4. The "automatic shut off" feature of the TanAmerica line of high pressure equipment. If you looked closely, you would have noticed that the TA Matrix line (L-33 and V-28) all have a VERY important safety feature already built in that will, I believe, be made mandatory by FDA in the not too distant future. If an absorption filter breaks or shifts on the Matrix line, that lamp will be automatically be shut off. EVERY HID/hp unit should have this feature!
