FYI To Ask Don's Army:
A recent article showed that physicians were LESS LIKELY than their patients to follow the UVR protection advice that they dispense.
Why?
Because doctors generally regard non melanoma skin cancer as an easily correctable "cosmetic disorder" since the great majority of them are not life threatening.
And they know (even if they won't tell YOU) that there is NO credible evidence linking UVR to melanoma.
So, you are probably asking yourself right now, why do they recommend that WE practice UVR avoidance and the use of a high SPF sun screen every day of the year no matter the season when THEY don't follow their own advice?
Because they know that the benefits of sensible, moderate and responsible exposure to UVR outweigh the minimal and manageable risks involved when it comes to themselves but they support the greed of their dermatology colleagues when it comes to giving advice to you and I.
Instead of taking a Hippocratic Oath, physicians should be required to take a "Hypocritic Oath" when it comes to giving advice about UVR!
Do as I say, not as I do.
