I just read info on VHO 160 watt lamps used in booths, the maufacturer said they can be "over driven" you can use higher wattage ballasts and run them at 170 or 180 maybe 200 watts ! All the same lamp!
That sounds to me like they are built to run at 200 watt but will wotk with ballasts down to 160, The ballast controls the lamp out put. So by using a higher or lower wattage ballast controls what the lamp out put will be. 160 watt that in most cases is really 168 watt,,,,,or 170 or 180 .
That the lamps will not burn out early or faster have output loss when over driven.
Sorry I don't remember what lamps maker makes these lamps or even were I read it, mybe someome else can give more info!
