20 years ago we used the philips 168 watt vho lamps in our first booths they had a 1.5 or 2% uvb, they tanned like crazy and lasted for ever.
They didnt burn at all, so you didnt see much results in the first 2-3 sessions then POW you were tanned.
Brown with out the redish color they were great!
They tanned fair and dark skinned people well, when we started to use higher uvb lamps old clienst said they didnt like the new lamps..... it took a number of years to buildup to the mid range uvb lamps we use today, clients now want a bit of red, they still don't understand they don't need it to tan well. Sad.
My face never gets as dark now that we use higher uvb lamps, if I had a booth at home I would put 2% uvb lamps in it for myself.
oh well maybe one day:)
PS. back in the old days we had to import the vho lamps for our booths, no salons in canada could use them, all the equipment was in the other salons was cheap tanning beds with 30 min sessions using 100 watt lamps.
Back then all the salons in our city said there was no vho lamps that we lied and that there was no 10 min sessions only 30, that we lied about that as well, needless to say they all went out of business, its bad to lie to your clients they will find out the truth! How do you get back credibility once you have lost it? You don't!
What was really funny is the owners from other tanning salons would come into our salon pretending to be clients to try the booths, we would keep a close eye on them, and some times they would not tan they would just say they wamted to see the booths and they would get down on their hand and knees to try and read the lables printed on our lamps and some even would write down the codes and numbers found on our lamps. One client that had gone to a competitor before she found use told us one of these tanning bed salon owners she had gone to, bought a bunch of the vho lmaps he saw being used at our salon and tried to put them in one of his beds, suprise they didnt light, the beds ballasts are made for the cheap low power 100 lamps, we laughed our hinies off hearing that. No 160 watt lamps , no 10 sessions, get real,
Then we heard 5 or more years later that when the 100 reflector lamps came out that some salon owners were trying to use them in there old beds not designed for them all their clients had big stripes , we laught good and hard over that.
When the 20 min and 15 min tanning beds came out, all the salons that bought one , the same salons that had told their clients there were no faster sessions then 30 min had a big problem, their clients said what you said in the past was not true, that you lied about the salon with tanning booths. Need less to say we got all their clients, we were the only honest salon in the city and had been from day one.
DON'T LIE TO YOUR CLIENTS.
They should be respected!
