its kind of like kleenex. when you say kleenex, you don't think of the company, you think of the tissue. when someone says wolff, you think tanning.

wolff isn't necessarily the standard that every lamp manufacturer tries to copy or beat or make themselves compatible to. at one time, there were many bed manufacturers that paid wolff a royalty to use their lamp system and their logo to put in their units. salon owners may or may not be happy with the wolff system lamp, and when it comes time to find replacements, more and more salon owners are running into the compatability issue.

so...the competing (alternative) lamp manufacturers make it a point to target wolff when they test their lamps. since there are so many wolff lamps out there, they want to include as many of them as possible on their compatability sheets.

what was once the alternative (light sources, interelectric, etc) has become mainstream. the more educated salon owners become, the more they realize their choices when it comes to replacement lamps. and you'll find that fewer and fewer bed manufacturers are sending out new units with wolff system lamps.

i'm not bashing wolff systems at all in this post. i believe that they put out some high quality lamps. their name has become synonymous with tanning. but you do have a choice.
